I am so excited because I am now the Program Director of a brand new running program in Montgomery County, MD. I had been running with the Galloway group in Virginia, and I loved the group, but it was just a long drive every Saturday morning, and all of the members of the group lived out there, so I couldn’t find any running buddies to run with during the week. I contacted Galloway headquarters to see if they would be interested in starting a group here, and the next I know, I am the one starting it and I am the Program Director!
I’ll be starting with the most basic plan – the Getting Started Plan, which trains for a 5K and if that is successful I’ll move into the half marathon plan. Right now I need to have Director training and my kickoff is going to be in the middle of January, with the program starting at the end of January. Our goal race will be in April.
I am a huge proponent of the Galloway running program, for beginners as well as seasoned runners. The run/walk technique works great for me, and allows me to run longer with easier recovery and fewer injuries, and at the same pace as if I was running continuously.
I need a co-director and some pace group leaders, so if anyone is interested, and lives in the county, please let me know! It is going to be a lot of fun, I have already partnered with Pacers Running store in Silver Spring, MD, and we will have shoe and clothing clinics, talks about hot and cold weather running, how to eat and drink before and during runs, stretching, injuries, nutrition, and a lot more. Plus after run breakfasts and a post race party!
I’ll keep you posted about how to register or become a pace group leader.

oh i wish i lived nearby! i would love to do this with you!!!!!!
Have fun! It sounds great
How exciting! I’m going to start running intervals to see if I can last longer on my long runs.
How exciting for you Linda! And so much better to be close to home too. Enjoy!
Linda! Congratulations! What a great program. If you still need coaching help, give me a holler. I would LOVE to help you out.
Sarah T from MCRRC 5k.
Hey Sarah T – I would love for you to be in my program as a group leader! I’m going to email you.
I would join this if I lived nearby. There is one in my town, but my therapist is a member. That would be awkward, I think
Good luck.
cd – yes, that would be very awkward. Tell her it is more important for you to be in the program than her, maybe she’ll drop out.
