This morning I headed downtown to pick up my race packet for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler tomorrow. It was being held at the National Building Museum, a place I have only been once before – two years ago when I was picking up my race packet for the 10 miler that year.
It is a very cool building, I have no idea what kind of exhibits they have there. There are so many museums in Washington DC, and I never go to any of them. I should start doing that.
The Expo was downstairs, but the first stop was upstairs to pick up my bib.
Lots of walking down long hallways.
Look, it has my name on it! That’s a first for me.
Then downstairs to get my bag and shirt.
This race always has pretty shirts.
Next up, shopping. I didn’t go too crazy, I only bought two things.
I bought “The Stick”, this is used for massaging sore muscles. I’ve been wanting one for a while now.

And some Ultima sports drink. This is vegan, has no sugar, and is full of electrolytes. I’ve been looking for a good sports drink, so I picked up the lemonade flavor, and I got two sample packets of orange. I made myself some to drink AFTER the race tomorrow – I decided to just stick with the water stops during the race.
I want to get one of these 13.1 magnets after my half marathon. I didn’t buy it today – I am superstitious that way.
There were some cute shirts:
Next stop – lunch. I looked online and found this pizza place that has vegan cheese. It is a nice place and the pizza was good, and so was the beer.
Then, since it was only a block away, a stop at the Red Velvet Cupcakery to get a vegan cupcake. Carb loading, right?
I am having prerace jitters. I’ve had them all week. I finally figured out what I am wearing, I have a list of everything I am bringing, and all I have to do is leave my house at 5:00AM, drive to the metro, take the metro to the staging area, eat my prerace meal, check my bag, and use the porta-potty. That was the glitch last time, I waited on line for the porta-potty for a long time, but never got to the front of the line, so I had to stop in the middle of the race.
There is nothing to be nervous about – it is not like I am trying to win. For some reason though, I always get anxious. What if I don’t finish? Well, so what? That’s no tragedy. I need a sports psychologist.
Let’s see what my long runs have been recently:
- March 24 – 9 miles
- March 17 – 8 miles
- March 11 – 7 miles
- March 3 – 10.3 miles
- Feb 25 – 6.2 miles
- Feb 19 – 6 miles
- Feb 11 – 12.1 miles
Plus two to three runs during the week, speed work, hill work – I think that makes me ready, doesn’t it?
